First Existentialist Congregation of Atlanta (First E) will be hosting a free screening of a documentary entitled Divided We Fall on September 11 at 7 p.m. The film tells the story of hate violence in the aftermath of 9/11. Its making began when then 20-year old college student Valarie Kaur grabbed her camera after the hate murder of a turbaned Sikh man and drove across the country, documenting stories that weren't making the evening news. Since the film was made, it has been shown in 60 cities at nearly 100 campuses and communities across North America. It has also been featured on CNN, NPR, and the BBC. First E has decided to show this movie and host a post-screening discussion as part of the Divided We Fall campaign—an effort to show this film in all fifty states in September. During a time when 9/11 will be used to serve the politics of an election season, the hope is that this campaign will bring Americans together in deep community dialogue, remembrance, and healing.
