(San Antonio, TX) August 26, 2008  - The Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI) has announced that it will begin to provide a series of its training and development programs through online-workshops, or "webinars".  The Institute calls these Sikhi Webinars 'Liv'.

Gurvendra Singh Suri, chairman of the SikhRI board of directors, commented, "We have been looking at different ways of broadening our outreach and delivery of  programs to major Sikh Diaspora communities around the world in a way that is sustainable, financially viable, environmentally friendly, and most importantly, convenient for the people we are looking to connect with. We feel that utilizing the webinar technology will help us achieve this goal"

Liv will provide live interactive sessions, allowing participants to engage with presenters and other attendees in real-time, or as pre-recorded instructional workshops that can be downloaded on-demand by anyone with access to the internet.

The first webinars will commence in September 13 2008 at 12:00pm CST, consisting of a 4-part series of interactive sessions lasting ninety minutes every Saturday. The focus will be on key historical, social and theological topics of importance to the Sikh community. Each session will be led by a presenter with expertise in areas such as Sikh history, gurmat traditions, social activism and human rights.

"We are regularly in touch with Sikh communities in North America, Europe and Asia who want us to deliver programs in their local communities on a regular basis, but it's been quite difficult due to logistical and financial constraints," said Harinder Singh, executive director of SikhRI.   "Now that we are introducing webinar facilities, our programs can reach anyone around the globe and we look forward to being able to engage with the vast Sikh communities outside of our traditional target area in North America."
